Face shield is a type of personal protective equipment (PPE) that is used to protect the facial area, including the eyes, nose, and mouth from splashes, sprays, and spatter of body fluids. Face shields are generally used in conjunction with other PPE such as masks and goggles.
Usage[edit]
Face shields are commonly used in healthcare settings, particularly in situations where there is a risk of exposure to infectious materials. They are also used in industrial settings to protect against flying debris, chemical splashes, and high heat.
Design[edit]
Face shields typically consist of a clear visor that covers the face, attached to a headband. Some designs also include a top piece to protect against debris falling from above. The visor is usually made of a clear plastic material that allows for good visibility while providing protection.
Effectiveness[edit]
While face shields provide a high level of protection against direct splashes and sprays, they are not designed to protect against airborne particles. For this reason, they are often used in combination with other forms of PPE such as N95 respirators or surgical masks.
Care and Maintenance[edit]
Face shields should be cleaned and disinfected after each use. This can usually be done with soap and water, or with a disinfectant wipe. It is important to ensure that the face shield is completely dry before reusing it.
