Nando's

Nando's is an international casual dining restaurant chain originating from South Africa, with a Mozambican/Portuguese theme. Founded in Johannesburg in 1987, Nando's operates over 1,000 outlets in 35 countries. Its logo is the famous Rooster of Barcelos.

History

Nando's was founded by Fernando Duarte, a Portuguese audio engineer, and Robert Brozin, a South African entrepreneur. They bought a restaurant called Chickenland in Rosettenville, Johannesburg, which they renamed to Nando's after Duarte's first-born son.

Menu

Nando's menu is primarily based on chicken dishes with various peri-peri marinades. The chicken is served in quarters, halves, wholes, and butterfly breasts. Nando's also serves burgers, pitas, salads, wings and wraps.

Business Model

Nando's operates on a slightly different business model in different countries. In some countries, Nando's sells chicken with a choice of peri-peri sauces, while in others it sells sauces and spices to both the restaurant industry and consumers.

Criticism and Controversy

Nando's has faced criticism for its advertising, some of which has been controversial. Despite this, the company has also been praised for its use of humor in its advertising.
