Jimmy John's is an American franchise sandwich fast food restaurant chain, specializing in delivery. It was founded by Jimmy John Liautaud in 1983 and is headquartered in Champaign, Illinois. In 30 years, the company has grown to more than 2,700 locations in all states except Hawaii.

History[edit]

Jimmy John Liautaud founded Jimmy John's in Charleston, Illinois, in 1983 when he was 19 years old. With used equipment, a $25,000 loan, and a simple menu of four sandwiches, Liautaud started his business in a garage with no heat or running water. A year later, he bought out his father's interest in the business, becoming the sole owner.

In 1986, the first franchise of Jimmy John's opened in Macomb, Illinois. By 2002, the company had grown to more than 200 locations. In 2019, the company was sold to Inspire Brands.

Menu[edit]

The menu at Jimmy John's consists of a variety of gourmet sandwiches, including the Pepe, the Vito, and the J.J.B.L.T. The chain also offers "Unwiches", which are any sandwich wrapped in lettuce instead of bread.

Business Model[edit]

Jimmy John's business model is focused on simplicity. The company targets a limited menu, focusing on quality ingredients and fast delivery. This model has allowed the company to expand rapidly across the United States.

Controversies[edit]

Jimmy John's has faced several controversies, including issues related to employee non-compete clauses, food safety, and hunting photos of the founder.
