Jared Fogle

Jared Fogle (born August 23, 1977) is an American former spokesperson for Subway restaurants who gained widespread notoriety after he was arrested in 2015 for possession of child pornography and paying for sex with minors. Prior to his arrest, Fogle was known for his significant weight loss and his appearances in Subway's advertising campaigns, which touted his weight loss success using their products.

Early life and education

Fogle was born in Indianapolis, Indiana and raised in the nearby city of Zionsville. He attended Indiana University but did not graduate, instead taking on a job with the marketing department of a computer rental company.

Subway campaign and weight loss

In 1998, Fogle weighed 425 pounds and decided to try to lose weight by incorporating Subway sandwiches into his diet. He claimed that he lost 245 pounds in a year and a half by eating Subway sandwiches and engaging in moderate exercise. Subway took notice of his story and hired him as a spokesperson, featuring him in their advertising campaigns and dubbing him the "Subway Guy."

Criminal activity and legal issues

In 2015, Fogle's home was searched by law enforcement officials as part of an investigation into child pornography. Following the search, Fogle was charged with possession of child pornography and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with minors. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was sentenced to 15 years and eight months in federal prison.

In addition to his criminal charges, Fogle was also sued by one of his victims, who claimed that he had paid her to engage in sex acts when she was a minor. In 2017, Fogle reached a settlement with the victim, agreeing to pay her $100,000 in restitution.
