History[edit]
The town of New Hartford was established in 1827 from the town of Whitestown. It was named after Hartford, Connecticut, the origin of many of its early settlers.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 65.5 square kilometers, of which 65.3 square kilometers is land and 0.2 square kilometers is water.
