== History ==
Tarzana was originally part of the [[Rancho El Encino]] land grant, which was given to three Mission Indians by the Spanish government in 1797. In 1909, the land was purchased by [[Edgar Rice Burroughs]], the author of the Tarzan novels, who then named the area Tarzana Ranch. The neighborhood was later developed in the 1920s and became a popular residential area.
