== History ==
Pendleton was founded in 1790 and named after Judge [[Henry Pendleton]]. The town is known for its historic district, which includes the [[Pendleton Historic District]], listed on the [[National Register of Historic Places]]. The district features a number of significant buildings, including the [[Farmers' Hall]] and [[Hunter's Store]].

== Demographics ==
As of the 2020 census, there were 3,287 people, 1,400 households, and 800 families residing in the town. The population density was 865.5 people per square mile (334.2/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 75.6% [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 19.2% [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 0.3% [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 1.2% [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], and 3.7% from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 2.5% of the population.

== Education ==
Pendleton is served by the [[Anderson School District 4]]. The town is home to [[Pendleton High School (South Carolina)|Pendleton High School]] and several elementary and middle schools. [[Tri-County Technical College]] is also located nearby, providing higher education opportunities to the residents.
