==History==
Murray County was established on December 3, 1832, from portions of [[Cherokee County, Georgia|Cherokee County]]. It was named after Thomas W. Murray, a prominent early settler and Georgia legislator. The county has a rich history, including its role in the [[Trail of Tears]], the forced relocation of the [[Cherokee]] people from Georgia to [[Oklahoma]].
