The '''Maryland House of Delegates''' is the [[lower house]] of the [[Maryland General Assembly]], the [[state legislature]] of the [[U.S. state]] of [[Maryland]]. It consists of 141 members who are elected from 47 districts. Each district elects three delegates for a four-year term. The House of Delegates meets in the [[Maryland State House]] in [[Annapolis, Maryland|Annapolis]].

== History ==
The Maryland House of Delegates was established in 1650 as the lower house of the [[Maryland General Assembly]]. It has undergone various changes in its structure and function over the centuries. Initially, it was composed of freemen of the province, but it later evolved to include elected representatives.

== Leadership ==
The House of Delegates is presided over by the [[Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates|Speaker]], who is elected by the members of the House. The current Speaker is [[Adrienne A. Jones]], who has held the position since May 1, 2019. The Speaker is responsible for maintaining order, appointing committee members, and overseeing the legislative process.
