== Early life and education ==
Boehner was born in [[Reading, Ohio]], the second of twelve children in a working-class family. He graduated from [[Moeller High School]] in Cincinnati and later earned a B.A. in business administration from [[Xavier University]] in 1977.

== Early career ==
Before entering politics, Boehner worked in the plastics and packaging industry. He served on the board of trustees of [[Union Township, Butler County, Ohio|Union Township]] and was elected to the [[Ohio House of Representatives]] in 1984.

== U.S. House of Representatives ==
Boehner was first elected to the [[U.S. House of Representatives]] in 1990, representing [[Ohio's 8th congressional district]]. He was a member of the [[Gang of Seven]], a group of freshman Republicans who exposed the [[House banking scandal]] and the [[House post office scandal]].
