The idea for G-I-N sprouted from the efforts of the international AGREE Collaboration, which was established to ensure the quality of clinical practice guidelines. In early 2002, at the inaugural international guideline conference in Berlin, Germany, [[guideline]] experts expressed the need for globally standardized guideline methodologies and improved channels for knowledge sharing.
