[[Dale Alford]] was born in [[Little Rock, Arkansas]] on January 28, 1916. He attended the public schools in Little Rock and later graduated from [[Hendrix College]] in Conway, Arkansas. He earned his medical degree from the [[University of Arkansas]] in 1942.<br />

After earning his medical degree, Alford served as a flight surgeon in the [[United States Navy]] during [[World War II]]. After the war, he returned to Little Rock and established a private ophthalmology practice.<br />

In 1955, Alford was elected to the [[Little Rock School Board]], where he served until 1958. During his tenure on the school board, he opposed the integration of Little Rock's public schools following the landmark [[Brown v. Board of Education]] Supreme Court decision.<br />

In 1958, Alford was elected to the [[United States House of Representatives]] as an independent candidate. He served in Congress from 1959 to 1963. After leaving Congress, Alford returned to his medical practice in Little Rock.<br />

Alford died on January 25, 2000, just three days before his 84th birthday.<br />
