== Function ==
The FLT4 gene encodes a tyrosine kinase receptor for [[vascular endothelial growth factors]] C and D. The protein is thought to be involved in [[lymphangiogenesis]] and maintenance of the [[lymphatic endothelium]]. It is expressed in [[endothelial cells]], particularly those of the lymphatic vessels. 

== Clinical significance ==
Mutations in this gene have been associated with [[lymphedema]]-distichiasis syndrome (LDS) and [[cancer]]. In cancer, FLT4 is often overexpressed and its inhibition can reduce tumor growth and spread. 

== Structure ==
The FLT4 protein is a single-pass type I membrane protein. It contains seven immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains and a protein kinase domain.
