The Minister of Health is a cabinet member in the Government of France. The position is currently held by Olivier Véran, who took office on 16 February 2020. The Minister of Health is responsible for maintaining and improving the health of the citizens of France. This includes the management of hospitals, health insurance, public health, and the implementation of health policy.
History
The position of Minister of Health was first established in 1920. The first person to hold the position was Adrien Marquet, who served from 1930 to 1932. Since then, the position has been held by a number of individuals, each bringing their own unique approach to health policy.
Responsibilities
The Minister of Health is responsible for a wide range of health-related issues. These include:
- Overseeing the French health care system
- Implementing health policy
- Managing hospitals and other health care facilities
- Regulating health insurance
- Promoting public health
