Kasai

Kasai procedure is a surgical method used to treat biliary atresia, a condition in which the bile ducts in the liver are blocked or absent. The procedure is named after the Japanese surgeon Morio Kasai, who developed it.

The Kasai procedure involves the removal of the damaged bile ducts and the creation of a new pathway for bile to drain from the liver into the intestine. As with any surgical procedure, the Kasai procedure carries risks. These include infection, bleeding, and complications from anesthesia. Additionally, there is a risk that the procedure will not be successful in restoring bile flow. In some cases, a liver transplant may be necessary.

Prognosis
