Hulk

Hulk is a fictional character, a superhero who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, and first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 in May 1962.

Character Origin

The Hulk is the alter ego of Bruce Banner, a socially withdrawn and emotionally reserved physicist who physically transforms into the Hulk under emotional stress and other specific circumstances at will or against it. These involuntary transformations lead to many complications in Banner's life. When transformed, the Hulk often acts as a dissociated personality separate from Banner.

Characteristics

The Hulk's level of strength is normally conveyed as proportionate to his level of anger. Commonly portrayed as a raging savage, the Hulk has been represented with other personalities based on Banner's fractured psyche, from a mindless, destructive force, to a brilliant warrior, or genius scientist in his own right. Despite the Hulk's brutish, monosyllabic and aggressive behavior, he is often portrayed as a sympathetic character, more so than his human alter ego, Bruce Banner.

Powers and Abilities

The Hulk possesses an incredible level of superhuman physical ability. His capacity for physical strength is potentially limitless due to the fact that the Hulk's strength increases proportionally with his level of great emotional stress, anger in particular. The Hulk uses his superhumanly strong leg muscles to leap great distances. The Hulk has been known to cover hundreds of miles in a single bound and once leaped almost into orbit around the Earth. The Hulk can also use his superhumanly leg muscles to run at super speeds, although his legs have limitless strength he does not have limitless speed and once he reaches a certain speed his legs become too strong and destroy the ground giving him no friction to run on, therefore he jumps to travel.

In Other Media

The Hulk has been depicted in various other media, most notably by Lou Ferrigno in the 1978–1982 television series The Incredible Hulk. The character has also been featured in numerous animated series, video games, and films, including the Marvel Cinematic Universe where he is portrayed by Mark Ruffalo.
