Warm (pronunciation: /wɔːrm/) is a term often used in the medical field to describe a sensation or condition of moderate or comfortable degree of heat.

Etymology

The term "warm" originates from the Old English word "wearm" which has the same meaning.

Medical Usage

In medical context, warm is used to describe the body temperature of a human or animal. Normal body temperature for humans is approximately 98.6°F (37°C), but can vary depending on factors such as time of day and individual differences. Fever is a common condition where the body temperature is elevated above the normal range, often as a response to infection or inflammation.

Warm can also refer to the sensation experienced by a patient, for example in the case of warm sensation which can be a symptom of various conditions such as peripheral neuropathy or menopause.

In addition, warm is used in the context of warm ischemia, a term used to describe a period of time that an organ or tissue is at body temperature after its blood supply has been reduced or cut off.
