Vocabulary (pronunciation: /vəˈkæbjʊləri/) is a term that refers to all the words known and used by a particular person or group. The term originates from the Latin word vocabulum, meaning a word or name.

The term vocabulary is derived from the Latin vocabulum, which means a word or name. It is a combination of vocare (to call) and -bulum (a suffix used to form nouns). The term was first used in English in the mid-16th century.
