Tamil (Medicine)

Tamil (pronunciation: /ˈtæmɪl/; Tamiḻ, pronounced [t̪amiɻ]) is a Dravidian language natively spoken by the Tamil people of South Asia. Tamil is the official language of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, as well as two sovereign nations, Singapore and Sri Lanka. In medicine, Tamil has a rich history and a variety of unique terms and concepts.

Etymology

The term "Tamil" is derived from Tamizh, the endonym of the Tamil people. The origin of the word Tamizh or Tamiḻ is believed to be from the ancient Tamil word "tam-miz" meaning "self-speak", or "one's own speech".
