Sustainability Science

Sustainability Science (pronunciation: /səˌsteɪnəˈbɪlɪti saɪˈɛns/) is an interdisciplinary field that seeks to understand the interactions between natural and social systems, and with it how to make complex decisions in a way that sustains, or even enhances, our current and future well-being.

Etymology

The term "Sustainability Science" is a combination of two words: "sustainability" and "science". The word "sustainability" comes from the Latin sustinere (tenere, to hold; sus, up). The word "science" comes from the Latin scientia, meaning "knowledge".
