Statistical (stəˈtɪstɪk(ə)l)

Statistical is an adjective that pertains to or based on statistics, the practice or science of collecting and analyzing numerical data in large quantities, especially for the purpose of inferring proportions in a whole from those in a representative sample.

Etymology

The term "statistical" is derived from the New Latin statisticus, which pertains to state affairs, and from the Italian statista, meaning a statesman or politician. The term "statistics", in the modern sense of the word, was first used by the Scottish writer Sir John Sinclair in his Statistical Account of Scotland in 1795.
