Spinal anesthesia - (pronounced) (SPY-nul A-nes-THEE-zhuh) temporary loss of feeling in the abdomen and/or lower body. Special drugs called anesthetics are injected into the fluid in the lower part of the spine to cause loss of feeling. The patient remains awake during the procedure. It's a kind of regional anesthesia. Also called SAB, spinal block and subarachnoid block
