Smoking ban

A Smoking ban (pronunciation: /ˈsmoʊ.kɪŋ bæn/) is a public policy, including criminal laws and occupational safety and health regulations, which prohibit tobacco smoking in workplaces and/or other public spaces.

Etymology

The term "smoking ban" is a combination of the English words "smoking" and "ban". "Smoking" is derived from the Old English smoca, meaning "to emit smoke", while "ban" comes from the Old Norse banna, meaning "to prohibit".
