Sexual intercourse (pronounced: /ˈsɛkʃuəl ˈɪntəkɔːrs/), also known as coitus or copulation, is a sexual activity where the penis is inserted into the vagina for sexual pleasure, reproduction, or both. This is also known as vaginal intercourse or vaginal sex. Other forms of penetrative sexual intercourse include anal sex, oral sex, and penetration involving the use of a finger or sex toy.

Etymology

The term "sexual intercourse" is derived from the Latin "inter" meaning "between" and "cursus" meaning "course". The term "coitus" is derived from the Latin "coire", which means "to go together".
