Saint Kitts and Nevis (pronunciation: /seɪnt ˌkɪts ænd ˈniːvɪs/), also known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, is a two-island country in the West Indies.

Etymology

The name "Saint Kitts and Nevis" is derived from Christopher Columbus, who named the larger island "Saint Christopher" after his patron saint, and "Nevis" after the Spanish term "Nuestra Señora de las Nieves" (Our Lady of the Snows) due to the cloud-covered peak of the island.

Health care in Saint Kitts and Nevis is managed by the Ministry of Health and includes a network of eight health centers and three hospitals. The country has made significant strides in public health with the eradication of diseases such as malaria and filariasis.
