Quantum (medicine)

Quantum (/ˈkwɒntəm/; from Latin quantus, meaning 'how much') is a term that has been adopted in various areas of medicine to describe phenomena that exhibit quantum-like properties. In the medical field, the term is often used in the context of Quantum Medicine, a branch of medicine that applies quantum theory to health and disease.

Etymology

The term 'quantum' originates from the Latin quantus, meaning 'how much'. In physics, it was first used in the early 20th century to describe the smallest possible discrete unit of any physical property, such as energy or matter. This concept was later adopted in medicine to describe phenomena that exhibit quantum-like properties.

Quantum Medicine

Quantum Medicine is a branch of medicine that applies principles of quantum theory to understand how the human body works at a molecular and atomic level. It seeks to understand health and disease in terms of quantum processes in the cells and tissues of the body. Quantum Medicine considers health as a state of balance and disease as a state of imbalance in the body's quantum mechanical processes.

  • Quantum Entanglement: A quantum mechanical phenomenon in which the quantum states of two or more objects have to be described with reference to each other, even though the individual objects may be spatially separated.
  • Quantum Coherence: In quantum mechanics, coherence is a fundamental aspect of quantum systems that allows them to exist in multiple states simultaneously.
