QRISK

QRISK (pronounced: /kjuː rɪsk/) is a predictive algorithm used in the medical field to estimate the risk of developing cardiovascular disease within the next 10 years. The term QRISK is derived from the words 'Quality' and 'Risk', indicating its purpose to provide a quality assessment of risk.

History

The QRISK algorithm was developed by a team of researchers at the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. The first version, QRISK1, was introduced in 2007, followed by QRISK2 in 2008, and the current version, QRISK3, in 2017.

Function

QRISK takes into account various factors such as age, sex, ethnicity, smoking status, and medical history to calculate an individual's risk of developing cardiovascular disease. It is used by healthcare professionals to identify high-risk individuals and initiate preventive measures.
