Prunella (pronunciation: pru-nel-la) is a genus of herbaceous plants in the family Lamiaceae, also known as self-heals, heal-all, or allheal for their historical use in herbal medicine.

Etymology

The name "Prunella" is derived from the German word for quinsy, a severe throat infection that this plant was once used to treat. The common name "self-heal" or "heal-all" refers to the plant's traditional use in herbal medicine for a variety of ailments.

Description

Prunella species are perennial herbs with square stems and opposite leaves. The flowers are produced in a dense spike and can be purple, blue, or white. The fruit is a nutlet.
