Physical Activity (pronunciation: /ˈfɪzɪkəl ækˈtɪvɪti/) is any bodily movement produced by skeletal muscles that requires energy expenditure. It is a fundamental aspect of human health and well-being.

Etymology

The term "Physical Activity" is derived from the Latin words "physica" meaning "natural science" and "activitas" meaning "activity".

Definition

Physical activity encompasses all activities, at any intensity, performed during any time of day or night. It includes both structured and unstructured forms performed in different settings such as walking, running, dancing, swimming, yoga, and gardening.

Regular physical activity has been proven to have numerous health benefits. It can help control weight, reduce risk of cardiovascular disease, improve mental health and mood, strengthen bones and muscles, and increase chances of living longer.
