Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland (pronunciation: /ˈnɔːrðərn aɪrˈlænd/) is a part of the United Kingdom located in the north-east of the island of Ireland.

Etymology

The term "Northern Ireland" has its roots in the partition of Ireland in 1921, when the island was divided into two separate entities: the independent Irish Free State (now the Republic of Ireland) and Northern Ireland, which remained part of the United Kingdom.
