Neuromuscular Medicine (pronunciation: neuro-muscular medicine) is a sub-specialty in the field of Neurology and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). It focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to the peripheral nervous system and muscles.

Etymology

The term "Neuromuscular" is derived from the Greek words "neuron" meaning nerve and "musculus" meaning muscle.

Definition

Neuromuscular Medicine involves the evaluation and management of conditions such as Peripheral Neuropathy, Myopathy, Muscular Dystrophy, Myasthenia Gravis, and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). It also includes the study of neuromuscular junction disorders and Autonomic Nervous System disorders.
