Needs (pronunciation: /niːdz/) are the basic requirements that an individual needs to survive or the things that people require to function and live a healthy life. Needs are distinguished from wants in that the latter are not necessary for survival or well-being.

The term "needs" originates from the Old English word "nēodian" meaning "be necessary, needed, or required."

Types of Needs

There are several types of needs, including:

  • Physiological Needs: These are the basic needs for survival, such as food, water, shelter, and clothing.
