Need (pronounced: /ni:d/) is a term used in various fields of medicine to denote a requirement, necessity, or demand for something essential for health or well-being.

The term "need" originates from the Old English word "nēodian" which means "be necessary, needed, or required."

In Medicine

In the field of medicine, a need refers to a patient's requirement for a particular type of treatment, medication, or care. This can range from a need for pain management in cases of chronic pain, to a need for surgical intervention in cases of severe injury or disease.
