Necrospermia (pronounced: nek-roh-sper-mee-uh) is a medical condition characterized by the presence of a high percentage of dead spermatozoa in the semen.

Etymology

The term "Necrospermia" is derived from the Greek words "nekros" meaning "dead" and "sperma" meaning "seed".

Definition

Necrospermia is a condition where more than half of the sperm in a man's semen are dead. It is often associated with male infertility.

Causes

The causes of Necrospermia can be divided into two main categories: Intrinsic Factors and Extrinsic Factors. Intrinsic factors are those related to the individual's own body, such as genetic disorders, hormonal imbalances, or infections. Extrinsic factors are those related to the environment or lifestyle, such as exposure to toxins, smoking, or excessive alcohol consumption.

Diagnosis

The diagnosis of Necrospermia is usually made through a Semen Analysis, which is a test that evaluates the quality and quantity of sperm in the semen.

Treatment

Treatment for Necrospermia depends on the underlying cause. It may include medication, lifestyle changes, or in some cases, assisted reproductive techniques such as In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) or Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).
