Nandrolone

Nandrolone (pronounced: nan-dro-lone), also known as 19-nortestosterone is a synthetic anabolic steroid that is derived from testosterone. It is used in the treatment of various health conditions such as anemia, osteoporosis, and some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer, and also acts as a progestin-based contraceptive.

Etymology

The term "Nandrolone" is derived from the words "nandrol" (a name for a group of steroids) and "one" (indicating that it is a derivative of testosterone). The "19-nortestosterone" name indicates that it is a testosterone molecule lacking a carbon atom at the 19th position.

Usage

Nandrolone is used in the medical field for the treatment of various conditions. It is used to treat anemia by increasing the production of erythropoietin, a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells. It is also used in the treatment of osteoporosis by increasing bone density, and in the treatment of some forms of neoplasia including breast cancer.

Side Effects

Like all anabolic steroids, Nandrolone has potential side effects. These can include cardiovascular disease, liver disease, and psychiatric disorders. It can also cause androgenic side effects such as acne and hair loss.
