Museum (myoo-ze-uhm)

Museum (pronounced: myoo-ze-uhm) is a term derived from the Latin word museion, which in turn originates from the Ancient Greek Mouseion (Μουσεῖον), denoting a place or temple dedicated to the Muses, the patron goddesses of the arts in Greek mythology.

Definition

A museum is an institution that cares for (conserves) a collection of artifacts and other objects of artistic, cultural, historical, or scientific importance. Many public museums make these items available for public viewing through exhibits that may be permanent or temporary.
