Mediated (/ˈmiːdiˌeɪtɪd/), from the Latin mediatus meaning "to intervene, to go between", is a term used in various fields of study including communication studies, psychology, and medicine. It refers to the process or state of being influenced or brought about through an intervening agency or medium.

In Communication Studies

In communication studies, mediated communication refers to any communication that is carried out using some channel other than those used in face-to-face communication. This can include everything from written letters to e-mails, phone calls, and text messages.

In Psychology

In psychology, mediated learning refers to the way in which stimuli experienced in the environment can influence one's cognitive processes. This is often discussed in relation to cognitive development and learning theory.

In Medicine
