Measure (Medicine)

Measure (pronounced: /ˈmeʒər/) in the context of medicine refers to the quantification or estimation of a particular health-related variable. This can include anything from the measurement of a patient's blood pressure, to the calculation of body mass index, to the assessment of pain scales.

The term 'measure' originates from the Old French mesure, which in turn is derived from the Latin mensura, meaning 'a measuring, a thing to measure by'. It has been used in the English language since the late 13th century.
