The Journal of Periodontology (pronounced: jər-nəl əv ˌpir-ē-ə-ˈdän-tə-lə-jē) is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes research in the field of periodontology. The journal is published by the American Academy of Periodontology.

Etymology

The term "Journal of Periodontology" is derived from the Greek words "peri" meaning around, "odous" meaning tooth, and "logia" meaning the study of. Thus, periodontology is the study of the supporting structures around the teeth.

History

The Journal of Periodontology was first published in 1930. It is the official publication of the American Academy of Periodontology and is dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of periodontology and related disciplines.
