Hydraulics (pronunciation: /haɪˈdrɔːlɪks/) is a technology and applied science using engineering, chemistry, and other sciences involving the mechanical properties and use of liquids.

Etymology

The word "hydraulics" comes from the Greek word ὑδραυλικός (hydraulikos) which is derived from ὕδωρ (hydor, Greek for water) and αὐλός (aulos, meaning pipe).

Hydraulics is a branch of science and technology concerned with the conveyance of liquids through pipes and channels, especially as a source of mechanical force or control.
