Hispanic

Hispanic (/hɪˈspænɪk/; Spanish: hispano or hispana) refers to people, cultures, or countries related to Spain, the Spanish language, culture, or people. The term commonly applies to countries once under colonial possession by the Spanish Empire following Spanish colonization of the Americas, parts of the Asia-Pacific region and Africa.

The term Hispanic derives from the Latin Hispanicus, meaning "from Hispania". Hispania was the Roman name for the Iberian Peninsula. Over time, the term has evolved and is now used to refer to the culture and people of countries formerly ruled by the Spanish Empire, regardless of race or ethnicity.
