Hilal Ahmar (هلال أحمر)

Hilal Ahmar (pronounced: /hiːˈlɑːl ˈɑːmɑːr/), also known as the Red Crescent, is a humanitarian organization that provides emergency assistance, disaster relief, and education in countries where the social services of governments are not able to fully meet the people's needs. The organization is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Etymology

The term "Hilal Ahmar" is of Arabic origin, with "Hilal" meaning crescent and "Ahmar" meaning red. The symbol of a red crescent moon is used by the organization as a counterpart to the Red Cross, particularly in Muslim-majority countries.
