Short definition | gamma knife therapy (GA-muh nife THAYR-uh-pee) A treatment using gamma rays, a type of high-energy radiation that focuses narrowly on small tumors or other lesions in the head or neck area so that very little normal tissue is irradiated. The gamma rays are aimed at the tumor from many different angles simultaneously, delivering a large dose of radiation right to the tumor in one treatment session. |
