Free love (/fri: lʌv/) is a social movement that rejects marriage, which is seen as a form of social and financial bondage. The Free Love movement's advocates had a strong belief that a person should be free to form unions without interference from the government. They believed that personal relationships and sexual activity should not be regulated by law.

The term "free love" has been used since at least the 19th century to describe a social movement that rejects marriage. It is believed to have originated from the French phrase amour libre which directly translates to "free love".
