Forest

Forest (pronunciation: /ˈfɔːrɪst/) is a large area dominated by trees. Hundreds of definitions of forest are used throughout the world, incorporating factors such as tree density, tree height, land use, legal standing and ecological function.

Etymology

The term forest comes from the Old French forest (also forès), which was derived from the Medieval Latin word forestis (also foresta). This term means "open or underdeveloped land that was used as a hunting ground."
