FOBT - A test that checks for occult (hidden) blood in the stool. A small sample of stool is placed in a special collection tube or card and sent to a doctor or laboratory for testing. Blood in the stool can be a sign of colon cancer or other problems like polyps, ulcers, or hemorrhoids. Guaiac FOBT and Immunochemical FOBT are two types of FOBTs. Guaiac FOBT uses a chemical called guaiac to look for blood in the stool. Immunochemical FOBT uses an antibody to look for blood in the stool. Also known as a fecal occult blood test
