erallysingle, it possesses well-marked induration, and isaccompanied by a similar condition of the glandsunder the angle of the mandible. Mucous Papules occur on the dorsum of thetongue, especially at the borders and towards theapex (see PL XY., Pig. 1). Their development isusually simultaneous with that of a cutaneouspapular eruption, and of similar lesions in themouth and throat. They form little flattened ele-vations, covered at first by a pearly epithelialpellicle, the speedy detachment of which causesthe papules to appear as bright red erosions.Owing to the irritation to which they are subjectedby the movements of the teeth during mastication,etc., their shape and appearance are liable to becomemuch altered. Later on in the course of the diseasethe tongue is the principal seat of a condition whichis sometimes called psoriasis linguce ; but the term is EXPLANATION OF PLATE XIV. Fig. 1.
