Fenpiprane

Fenpiprane (pronunciation: fen-pi-prane) is a pharmaceutical drug used primarily as a decongestant and antitussive agent.

Etymology

The term "Fenpiprane" is derived from its chemical structure, which is a phenylpiperazine derivative. "Fen" is short for phenyl, "pip" for piperazine, and "rane" is a common suffix used in drug nomenclature.

Usage

Fenpiprane is used to relieve nasal congestion due to common cold, sinusitis, or allergies. It is also used as an antitussive to relieve coughing. It works by narrowing the blood vessels in the nasal passages, thereby reducing swelling and congestion. As an antitussive, it acts on the cough center in the brain to suppress the cough reflex.
