Energy Medicine

Energy medicine (pronounced: /ˈɛnərdʒi ˈmɛdɪsɪn/) is a branch of alternative medicine that focuses on the use of an individual's inherent energy fields to promote wellness and healing. The term is often associated with practices that aim to manipulate "biofields" by applying pressure and/or manipulating the body by placing the hands in, or through, these fields.

Etymology

The term "energy medicine" is derived from the words "energy" and "medicine". "Energy" (from the Greek energeia, meaning activity or operation) in this context refers to the life force or vital energy that is believed to flow through the body, while "medicine" (from the Latin mederi, meaning to heal) refers to the science and practice of diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease.
