The groups may differ by location (e. g. city, county or country). They can also differ in time (a few days, years or decades). Groups can be immigrants (vs. natives) or people with different types of jobs. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program conducts ecological surveys to gather information about cancer rates over time in specific parts of the United States.
